Why Liahona Children's Foundation?

Why Liahona Children's Foundation?

Jane and Beth have understood the mission of Liahona Children's Foundation is to nourish the potential of children to lead healthy and productive lives by eliminating malnutrition in the Philippines.

Why does Liahona Children's Foundation focus on helping the child's nutrition?

Lack of adequate nutrition have a significant threat to an individual's health and long-term potential for school and work.

If a child has a stronger immune system, the child has greater longevity, lower risk of non-communicable diseases than poorly nourished children.

Malnourished children often have delayed mental development, poor school performance, and reduced intellectual and economic productivity.

We both help the undernourished mother and the child because women are at a greater risk of childbirth complications, delivering a low birthweight infant, and having an impaired ability to lactate.

How does Liahona Children's Foundation help the undernourished children?

The objective of the Liahona Children's Foundation is to identify and implement effective ways of reducing malnutrition among the LDS population and their friends.

We do this by,

  • providing nutritional supplementation to malnourished children,
  • supporting families in sustained breastfeeding, and
  • teaching families about nutritional and hygienic food preparation.
